One Fry at a Time: The Falcon’s Partnership with Sunflowers Suicide Support
At The Falcon, we believe a pub is more than just a place to enjoy great food, drink, and conversation—it’s a vital part of the community. That’s why we’re excited to announce our new partnership with Sunflowers Suicide Support, a Gloucestershire-based charity dedicated to supporting those bereaved and affected by suicide.
Starting in Autumn 2024, we’ve launched a simple initiative to make a big difference. For every portion of our famous fish and chips sold, £1 will be donated to Sunflowers Suicide Support. By enjoying one of Britain’s favourite meals, you’re helping to fund critical resources and compassionate care for those in need.
A Lifeline for Mental Health
Sunflowers Suicide Support is an invaluable part of the Gloucestershire community. They provide practical and emotional support to those impacted by suicide, while also raising awareness about mental health and suicide prevention. From offering counselling and peer support groups to organising community events, their work fosters understanding, healing, and hope.
Daniel Orme, General Manager of The Falcon, shared his enthusiasm for the initiative:
“Sunflowers Suicide Support’s compassionate care for those affected by suicide is invaluable. We believe in the power of community and mental health awareness, and we are committed to helping them make a positive impact. By partnering with Sunflowers, we aim to bring hope and healing to our community, fostering a more understanding and supportive environment for everyone.”
Ben Williams, a representative from Sunflowers Suicide Support, emphasised the importance of partnerships like this:
“Support from local businesses like The Falcon helps us extend our services to more people in need. Every donation directly impacts lives by funding crucial resources that provide comfort and care during incredibly difficult times.”
More Than Just Fish & Chips
This partnership is part of a broader initiative across Balfour’s group of countryside pubs, each supporting causes close to their communities. From mental health and environmental preservation to supporting vulnerable groups, each pub has chosen a charity that reflects their local values.
Whether you’re visiting The Tickled Trout, West Farleigh, The Swan, Forest Row, The Windmill, Hollingbourne, The Ship Inn, Rye, The Falcon Inn, Painswick, or The Goudhurst Inn, Goudhurst, you’ll find us working alongside local charities that are making a real difference.
How You Can Get Involved
There are many ways to support Sunflowers Suicide Support beyond enjoying fish and chips. Consider making a direct donation to fund their vital services or contributing towards their Sunshine Boxes, which provide comfort and self-care items to those grieving a loss, each costing £30–£35 to create.
You can also join fundraising events—whether it’s running a marathon, hosting a bake sale, or taking on a unique challenge, your participation raises essential funds and awareness. Or volunteer your time in roles like peer support, event organisation, or administrative assistance. Every effort, big or small, helps Sunflowers bring hope and healing to those affected by suicide.
